Folk painting is arisen from the Assendelfter art of painting.

This form of painting was first seen in the "Zaanstreek" in the Netherlands, and the origin is dated from 1688.

People found walls and tables painted with biblical figures and also a lot of flowers like the "Assendelfter rose", the tulip, the anemone and the iris are seen a lot.

These flowers with the addition of a lot of foreign influences, give this mostly classical painting a modern appearance.
